Usually you can find instructions on the manufacturer's site in pdf form. Most MP3 players can simply be plugged into the USB port of your computer and you can just drag and drop files onto it as a USB key. Anything that is in MP3 format should be playable. Should be pretty simple

Put cord into mp3 and then look into my computer. It might have a new icon in there. If it does then get your music and drop it into this icon. Then walla you have music on your mp3. Or see if it is supported by windows media player and do it that way.

I don't know if you ever got your 5001 to work but I went through the same mess with mine, I bought one from a pawn shop and it didn't come with the cd or manual.
I run xp pro, I would plug my 5001 in and my pc would recognize it but when it would look for the driver it wouldn't find anything so I let it look online and still nothing, so I looked myself, nothing.
I tried rca website they had nothing there so I e-mailed them and they replied telling me to call the 800 # and all I can say about that is hahahahahaha, no help at all the guy I talked to pretty much told me I didn't know how to use my mp3 player or my computer, all I needed was a driver....
So a few days ago I got it to work, and all I had to do was download windows media player 11 and when I tried the 5001 again it found a driver and now works fine.
I know this post is long but I hope it helps someone, or maybe show that rca support is $%&t and if you have a problem with an rca product GOOD LUCK

I'm not very good with any of this stuff, but you could see if the computer recognize the device with a message on what you want to do the removable disk or music device. you click the view files and check if there is any music folder available. If not, then you can just send the music files straight by selecting all and sending it to the device.
If your computer doesn't show any message, then you should check your My computer file to see if the device is connected or has a folder under portable or other devices.
I hope this helps
