My girlfriend recently purchased an Ilo brand 1GB MP3 Player. She had used it for about a week, before dropping it onto a sidewalk. Aside from a minor scuff on the side, all seemed well. She noticed later that day, that the I/O button was wedged back into the casing. She gave the MP3 Player to me to inspect. After removing the case, I saw that the I/O switch attached to the board was knocked loose from its sautered base.
After checking for other damage (just a broken "Hold" switch) , I attempted turning on the MP3 Player while securing the switch in its seating manually. No luck there. It does power on, if you connect it via the firewire cable to a pc. This is the only way to activate it. After contacting Ilo, they said they don't offer any type of warrenty on the 1 GB Model covering what they claimed as "Misuse of their product". (BS, anyone?) Before I attempt to fix this myself, I thought it fit to ask for any advice. Should I just be able to sauter the switch back in place? Is there anything I need to be on the look-out for (such as, is there a certain area I need to sauter it to the board, might I put sauter over an important area under the switch etc)? I know this isn't easy, because you can't see the type of switch, or it's seating. Here are two pictures. One of the entire disassembled unit. Another of the switch thats detached. Please note that it isn't COMPLETELY apart from the board, just 3 of the 4 corners. URL URL Hopefully this is enough information to get some positive feedback. Thank you. -Drew |

A week of use like I use mine (24/7 litterly {Creative Zen 20GB}) you might want to clean the place of soldering with flux. Those MP3 players must be really weak due to she just droped it on the sidewalk. Mine feel in the a hole that had cement at the bottem of it when I was doing construction, and just the screen broke, but I soldered that right on. Also yes, that "misuse" is redicules. If it's broken don't be scared to mess with it. I mean hell what else you going to do if you don't solder it? Good luck, report back to us to tell if it works or not

She does have a similar problem. I've determined it to be a problem with the driver *obvious enough*. I also encountered a problem when uploading 2 songs of the same size. such as 6,570Kbs. It saw them as duplicates and would overwite the first song with the second. I appriciate all of your feedback. Thanks a million guys.

My daughter had the exact same situation. I'll try the repairs suggested. Did it work for you?
Does this speak of bad design, or what? Thanks, hanch6 |

I too have the same problem. In my case, my MP3 player was on the arm of my couch and fell off, onto the cushion, rolled down a blanket and onto the floor. Who would have thought that that kind of fall would break the switch? This player was definitely poorly constructed and designed. Hope your repair ideas help. Any others are great too. |

My suggestion is to go to walmart.com and then download songs from them. It will allow you to download Windows Media Player on your system. |

Hells, no. They are expensive, not Firefox friendly, and the majority of the crappy new music they sell isn't worth listening to, anyway. If Media Player on your computer can't detect and install music to the device, then try Real Player... I've had success with that. If Win says unrecognizable device, the unit may be faulty.

Yes, it is very possible, in fact, highly probable, that you are wrong. You would be a better person if you would just admit that. And I would be less annoyed. ![]() "I like doggies....and apparently dinousaurs, mostly because they eat cats!" --Nilpo |

I also bought 2 Ilo mp3 players like the ones mentioned above. I have had nothing but problems since the first day. I have had both players replaced once and it took an act of god for that to happen. The players do have poor construction and are not durable. Both have since broke again and Ilo refuses to replace, since the warranty is based on purchase date, not date of replacement.

I need your help please
I have the Ilo MP3 player but I lost the original downloading hardware disk. Do you know where I can get that download? I don't think I can return it, so I'm out of luck unless I can get my hands on that disk. Whatcha think?
