Arrow Help with MP4 Digital Player

It looks like a nano but no logo has 1.5 screen and 2GBspace. Myfriend gave it to me it worked fine for him we are both running XP. Problem is it is not being detected at all! No pop ups on PC however the player lights up and shows me it's charging. I've tried to search for it and nothing~On CD the only drivers are for win 98. There is some MP3 Player utilities on the CD too but that won't seem to install either. The CD whizzes round lots tho and I had something saying "I/O error" The instructions are in some funny translation of English with an apple sign in the corner lol... Needless to say this was bought on EBay a couple of months ago.

On the MP3 player the menu shows these options. Music, record, voice, FM radio, text, picture, phone book, games, movie, sys setup.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me getting this thing connected to my PC...

Many thanks

Chrissy

sadly enough thats a scam. 2GB is meaning 2 gigabits meaning I think 256megs. Also the software that is packaged with them is garbage. wikipedia has a great article about MP4 players

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_MP4/MTV_Player

Warning: If you do get it working do not flash it because the firmware cannot be recovered and this makes the player useless.

the software is meant for windows 98. Its pretty bad stuff but I know from experience that you can't use another program. Thats even if it cam with a disc.

Shouldn't this thing be plug and play with XP? My friend had it working fine on his PC. I still have his tunes on it, shame I'm not into Christian Rap! I so want to put my own tunes on it.. Surely there must be a way?

I don't even know why that data CD came with drivers for Windows 98, as in my experience I have never got an iPod to work with Windows 98 - only to charge it but nothing other than that!

As for XP - indeed it should be Plug & Play, but due to the nature of the iPod device and the secuirity protection on it, Windows will attempt to find drivers for it but will then ask you for the iPod driver CD, which you do not have.

I would try hunting on Google to see if you can download a copy of the iPod driver CD or try to borrow one from a friend who has a Nano too.

Other than that, iTunes needs the drivers to be installed before you can use it to transfer music, so without it, I'm afraid you can't do anything.

Good luck!

Hi just to let you know that I am fully aware that this thing of mine is not a IPOD. It just looks a bit like one  My problem is windows does not detect it! Would really appreciate if someone has some kind of solution or something I could try to get it detected! Many thanks!

Heh - I know that! :P

@chrixxy: My solution would be to attempt to use the iPod drivers with it and see what happens.

hook it up and see if it detects it. then drop and drag the files into the mp4 folder that should be located in my computer.

ok my comp detects and im using windows media player to put music onto it and i do the same thing with videos and when i transfer videos it says that it has been transferred but when i look on my mp4/3 player the videos are not there

u said there is an mp4 folder well i got this little disk about the size of a gamecube disc and i put that in and it has some stuff on it but its all in like korean or some kinda weird symbol language and i cant read so is there like a transferring program on the disc? like itunes for an ipod? cuz all it has on there in the way of programs to transfer is windows media player 9 and i have windows media player 10 so should i get 9?

the problem you are having is your arn't converting the videos into amv or mtx format. the program to do this should be on the cd or you can find it on the internet. you may need to install codecs for these but the majority of formats convert nicely, rmvb for example is one i use alot(as long as realplayer or realalt are installed) as its small to download. Its great for when your in work prop it at the top of your keyboard and watch family guy while praying for 5:30 to come quickly. you then copy the converted files into the amv folder and job done. try (URL address blocked: See forum rules) . video will run the battery out in around 3 hours, if you arnt getting up to 3 hours completely drain the player to the point it wont switch on then charge it fully and try again.

i'm having the same problem as the starter of this thread my device wont connect to my backwords work computer, i've tried everything i can come up with but given up hope now. although i've never had any problems using it on an xp (works is an me) machine its always just been plug and play.

as to people saying they are poor products inferior to ipod well the only problem i've ever had is the poor quality headphones, used it daily for up to 6 hours at a time for the last 6 months and only problems i've had is a couple of format errors which are fixed by copying the file over again. And my player is 2gb not 256mb you just need to fine a good seller who is actually in your contry not just say they are. also including P&P cost me £28 whats that in ipod terms a shuffle?
