he mentions a good point with resolution. I have the Canon PowerShot G9 which has a 12.1MP sensor, and the shots pale in comparison to my older gen. Canon Digital Rebel XT which has an 8.6MP sensor. Of course, you have to factor in the quality of the glass being greater in my dSLR, and the CMOS v CCD sensors, but the noise level and sharpness is almost dissapointing in the G9 TBH.

They should just keep the megapixels low and focus on low light performance.

Give us a camera that shoots raw and can perform at iso 800.

I heard the g10 is nice but it falls apart in low light. Keep it on iso 80 and you have a really nice file that some pros are comparing to medium format. Check Luminous Landscape because I can't post links yet.

Ya, I do completely agree with the MP idea.

It's a large reason why I recently went with a Nikon D40 rather than shelling over the extra cash for a D40x or a D60. It's just not worth the extra money and higher MP does not mean better shots.

Well in dSLRs the consumer cameras are the low end, then there's the pro-sumer, which I think are worth the extra money, then you have the professional cameras that I can only dream of owning.
