Umm, can you gimme some info about what brand, model, make, software, etc? Op system for the PC would help, too.
You changed out batteries in it too, right?

Hey dude, Same thing happened with my Yellow "Hip Street" MP3. I would return it to wherever you bought it or if it is an eBay Mp3, Sell it for some $ then buy a new one same model or a Whole new make. What I did was return my Hip Street MP3 and buy an iPod Shuffle.
