My Cooling Fan just won't reach the CPU in a Laptop

Hey guys, im very new to the whole cooling scene, so go easy on me. I have an older laptop that needed a fan replaced.
I ordered a new one and it took three months to arrive. It's finally here and turns out that it the wrong model for my laptop.
Now i don't want to send it back and wait forever again so i thought i could modify it.
The good thing is that the fan i recieved is almost exactly the same as the one thats suppose to be in the laptop excepting the part that touchs the cpu is a couple of mils to short.
Can anyone give me some ideas on how i can extend that length of the part or should i just use more thermal paste?
the fan look like this:

the little pyramid this is the part thats too short

Thanks in advanced

Flashy Out

Important use the correct parts in your laptop
or damage will occur as the CPU and the heatsink
must both be smooth and touching
to remove heat AS5 is a conductor thiner the better.
