SMP Work Around ???

I've searched our forums but can't find anything.

Is there a work around where you don't have to use Admin Rights?.......eg logging in to D/T..... we've been getting a lot of storms lately and of course the power always goes out....doesn't stay out,just flickers but restart my comps
It's a pain in the butt to have to resart the SMP consoles..........not to mention the GPU client doesn't restart till I get to Desktop.
I got my Comps set to restart on power failure put unless I login to D/T I'm losing precious time....If power goes out at 2 am ....it won't get any WU's done for like 7 hours.

Well Papa, as far as I'm aware SMP can't be restarted as a system process so you have to log in. I have seen, however, other folders get round this but I'm not sure how. As for GPU, well, I've not even been at it a week so I can't give any advice on that. Not much help but if you have a look round the F@H forum you might find some answers there.

Python is correct.

The only alternative I can think of for you Papa, is to get you some (UPS-Uninteruptable Power Supplies)

I've read UPS can keep computers powered up during power outages anywhere from 15 minutes to 8 hours and more.
The longer the uptime, the more expensive they are!

Depending on your security requirment you can always have the machine auto login on startup as the normal user. I have one machine runnign XP that does that in case of any reason to restart as it runs the security camera software.

For the Admin side, that it is only supposed to be done for the install process (running the install batch file) this is so the install can correctly register the user (normal user login for folding) in the registry settings correctly.

To start the folding I just put a shortcut for each client (Std, SMP, GPU2) in your startup folder to kick each one off when the user login occurs.

There must be much better ways to do it including running in service mode but I have not looked into that and this method gets me by for now.
