New bigadv WU's - 25,403 pts per WU
For those with 8 core or greater machines (physical not logical) there are some new bonus projects released.
There are currently 2 projects 2681 & 2682 worth 25,403 points per WU, they have a turnaround of 4 days recommended 6 days max they are GROCVS Description kasson.
Might be worth folding one of these if you have the HP to do it.
Thinking I might get the 8 core Macpro onto one and see how it fairs (after I work out the ppd it might get compared to the 4xSMP it runs which averages in the range 8,600 - 9,000 ppd).

I had a quick try to get a WU of these folding on my Mac Pro the other day but the processors kept hunting they would go to 100% for several seconds and then drop to 0 and go back up again. While doing that it was not going to be able to complete the WU in time, so I just stopped it (after a few tries to figure it out) and went back to regular folding on it for now. Will try again later if I get a chance.
Has anyone noticed user 'PDC' stats from the Pande Team In only a few weeks they have blitzed passed our total team score. I think they they are running these projects on some of their maxed out Mac Pro's or some extreme Linux SMP systems. It looks like they have just shut down their 'test' machines or are giving them a rest as the last several timeslots have almost dropped to zero.
There are bonus points (to get greater than 25,403 per WU) if you can finish them early. They are worth a look - but only if you have an extreme system that can get the bonus, otherwise you have the risks of cranking one mega WU for 3-4 days for about the same (if you finish it before the deadline and have no problems) as you would get from multiple regular SMP's running on the machine (currently about 9,000 ppd for me).

yea, PDC only started folding a few weeks ago and is already poised to reach #1 very soon. I wonder what kind of hardware they have running behind that one.

Well they have not stopped just posted an update of over 5.8M for 104 WU's, that's an ave of 54,116 per WU.
They must be some fast machines that are cashing in on those bonus 2680/2681 projects with early return extra bonus points.

I just had another problem on the Mac Pro - It is doing it's (folding not working) thing again. I think it was after it returned the completed SMP it was on.
So I have tried to configure a -bigadv WU.
I think I have got it running (it took about 45mins to go from 0% to 1% so thats about 3 days to complete 1 WU if it does not slow down It still has a little idle CPU time regularly so I just imagine thats part of these bigadv WU's processing load profile.
I'll leave it running and see how it goes, will report back on any progress.
On similar news the reason why things may have been going wacky is my network config, the MacPro had no hostname and I think there is problems with OSX connecting using DHCP to an AD Win2003 server, it seems to set the host name to the last machine that connected to the server. Added the machine name in the hostconfig file (Leopard) and it looks correct so we'll see where that takes things.

Looks like my Mac Pro does not want to do these bigadv projects, at 6% (while I was out) it locked up.
I am back to normal smp's for a while until I can figure out why, hopefully the hostname problem might address the occasional random startup errors with normal smp's that I have had.
