Intel showcases 80 core CPU

If this hits the retail market, lets hope Pande Lab/Stanford figures out a way to take advantage of it. The power requirements look pretty good from the article!
I'm guessing 16 to 32gig main ram might be required though, to run that many clients simultaneously -

Imagine the ppd attainable from 40 SMP clients or a couple of GPU clients and 38 SMP's on 1 rig!!

The future definately looks interesting!!

can't run windows unfortunately, and as for 1tflop, a single 4870 does that, meaning its not that impressive, and stanford can hardly use a 3870 to its full capacity, let alone a 4850/4870/4870x2.

i've the impression that the future of F@H lies in humungous amounts of gpu power, these are far more powerful than cpus n terms of flops atm. and that thing is schedules for in over 5 years.... lol.

But I remember hearing something about having 80core CPU's by 2010. This was probably 3-4 years ago.

80 cores is still a few architectures off.
