Folding on GPU's
Hi guys, I haven't been around for a while but now that I'm back I'm folding again.
At present I have a few Xeons, P4's and Core 2 Duo processors folding for me, some more reliably than others. I also have my Opteron server and workstation on the case as well, but the real interest to me is my graphics cards. I have a Radeon HD 3870 folding at the moment and that is still bringing in most of my PPD's despite all the other rigs I have on the case. I also have a few other systems to bring online including my secondary rig which has a Radeon X1900XT which I hope to have folding by the start of day tomorrow. What I would like to do though is fold on some of my slightly less potent cards. I have an 8400GS, 7800GS and 6800GT not doing an awful lot at the moment and I would like to get them on the job. I also have a second Radeon 3870 which is part of my crossfire rig and I'd like to get that on the job as well. Can anyone give me any advise with regards to this? Or am I living in fantasy land? Thanks a lot and hope what I'm doing helps the cause

Well, as of now, the X1900XT has no folding client. Stanford just recently ended folding on those and the 6800GT and 7800GS can't fold either. Nvidias client is for 8000 series cards and higher that support the newer CUDA drivers.
I have a 7800GS also that will never fold anything

Oh man that sucks. My X1900XT was a great folder. Not as good as the 3870, but really, would it have been too much to keep X1900 support? Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

Good luck getting it all up and running and thanks on behalf of the team.
Right, I'll get the 8400GS folding, but what about my other 3870? I've tried running a client for it but it always crashes out. Should I stop folding on my cpu (A dual core Opteron 180) and just shift over to the GPUs?
I have to say, it's immensely annoying that I can't use my X1900XT when I can use my 8400GS. The former is substantially more powerful than the latter despite being from the generation before. Do you think they'll bring back a client for these older, but still potent GPUs?

3870 should be able to fold OK.
I found getting things running to be a bit of a pain but once you figure it out they seem to go OK. It is so easy to miss or incorrectly do one of the steps and then it just does not work properly but it sometimes hard to figure out why.
Let us know more about your config and what the 'crashing out' is. I am sure between our collective devfolding team skills we will be able to figure out what is going on.
