Q6600 overclock

I just upgraded from a E6400 that was overclocked to 3.0 on a P5NE 680I motherboard just set the FSB from 1066 to 1500 and there you go. But with this Q6600 I tried setting the FSB to 1200 at 2.70 and it worked but when I try any higher My computer freezes after that. I can't even go into my bios I had to reset the bios by taking the battery out. I am not sure if I have to drop my multiplier down from 9 to 8 or mess with my voltage and to be honest I don't know much about that. i would like to get this thing at least up to 3.0 if not higher I do have to GO version. My system specs ASUS P5N-E SLI 680i motherboard 3x1 gig DDR2 800 ADATA RAM running on XP Home SP2 2900xt video card, thanks for any help

Please post CPUz screen shots of your OC. Find out what your temps are using Core Temp.

What voltages are you using?
Your ram is running linked?Unlinked?
No need to drop the multi.
Your also gonna have to do some BIOS tweaks too.
What is your current highest stable OC?

You're going to have to watch your temps much closer, a quad is going to be dumping out a lot more heat in the end.

Also 3 sticks of ram is not very good for overclocking, first you lost dual channel, but its also a weird load for a memory load controller. And a lot of motherboards don't like more than 2 sticks.

I have in unlinked FSB at 1200 for 2.70 and memory at 800 multiplier 9 anything after that will not boot will try and remove 1 stick of RAM would it be better to get 1 more stick of DDR2 800 or 2x2 for 4 gigs will be using vista shortly. My temp seem to be alright using aftermarket cooler gigabyte 92mm

Don't worry about the 4th GB of ram. It will just be tougher on the memory controller and go ahead and try with two sticks as bball stated.

What are your temps under load?

What tweaks other then the memory and FSB have you done in the BIOS?

It will help to turn off any power saving options and such.

Have you touched the voltages at all?

My temp for core temp is 45C under full load and 35C for speed fan under full load. The olny thing I changes in the bios in the FSB from 1066 to 1200. I tried 1250 FSB and computer freezes during boot. I have not change voltage or tried overclocking the RAM at all. Just crazy with my E6400 running at 2.13 I just changed the FSB from 1066 to 1500 and nothing else and bang 3.0GHZ and was running very statle with no random reboots at all and ORTHOS strees test for 6 hours with no errors. But with Q6600 can't go any further that 2.7 with FSB at 1200 just annoying.

Bump the voltage.

Honestly a q6600 doesn't clock nearly as well as an e6400. You are going to have to help it along more.
