Did you read that article. It will give you step by step instructions on what to do. You might not be able to run that memory at 220. Try 205 then210 and keep going up until your system is unstable. Make sure you set your vdimm to 2.85 and give your cpu 1.6. I suggest you read that article overclocking your p4 800fsb.

Hey. Yes I read that article. I find out I cant go over 215, so sets my processor (P4 3.2) 3440 (multiplier is 16) (266Mhz). (In the asus bios, i believe the memory options are for 320 MHz and 266Mhz. These are the same as the 5:4 and 3:2 dividers, just different names for it.)

When i set 215 at 400 mhz died on the sopt. 215 at 320Mhz worked for 4-5 minutes and restarted. So now is working on 215 at 266mhz. My memory is some pc of S@#$%. made by Mosel Vitelic. Time for some Pc3700 or pc4000. Any recomendations, comments.
Thanx
Pete

Don't bother with 3700 or 4000, you won't be able to overclock far enough for that.

Get some Mushkin Black 3500 Level II. You will be able to run this 1:1 with your CPU at 2-2-2-5 timings. Should be a fast combo.

Overclocking Article

Heya,

I just saw this article at www.ocarena.com on overclocking. It seems slanted more towards the P4 users.

Worth a look IMHO.

the hard part about finding where to OC this board is in the bios. When you change the settings from auto to manual, you use the up and down button to scroll to the 220 setting, then use the plus minus keys on the numbers to the right to raise and lower the timings. You should be able to get upwards of 3.6 on that set up. I am at 3.7 with the same set up now.
Lock your FSB at 400 and the video card at 66/33
Set your timings as mine, then adjust for best speed. Let me know please.

ASUS P4C800 DEluxe, OCed at 3.7 on air, stock fan.
FSP locked at 400 1-1
OCZ PC3700 1gig memory at 2.5>4>4>6
9700 ATI 66.33
Audigy 2 platinum

What, that guide does not work for me at all, my bios doesn't have softmenu and all those options, it has some, but not all.

got mine up as much as 230mhz x11 but had to raise my vcore to 2.03, mem 2.9v and vchip 1.7. Raised temps to 43c idle. Brought back down to 223 mhz. The mushkin still ran at 2-2-2-5 settings. But I found it better for me at 2-2-2-11.

If u'd read the forums more carefuly then you would know that you'd better get the 2.4 or 2.6 ... cuz they are more oc friendly

but the price on the 2.8C will be reduced to that of a 2.6C. I might as well get it then.

A Rookie "baseline" question, which I need answered by those out there in the know...

In order to assess what I'm doing wrong, I need to know if the Operating System is a major factor in "Overclocking?"

Specifically, if using Windows Me (98 version 3???), will this be a hindrance to overclocking.

Are all these 23,000 3DMark2001 results arrived at using Windows XP?

I'm using Me, and cannot attain a stable system beyond an FSB of 217-PERIOD-@217 I get pretty consistent 18,300/400 scores. 17,3-500 baseline no "O'Cing."

P4c800-E Deluxe
ATI 9800XT 128MB
Antec 480W
2X512 Corsair 3200/400
P4 3.0/800
The PCI/AGP bus is locked @ 6-2-1(?).....I have a SCSI boot, RAID Array, the Adaptec card requires reliable stability in this regard.

Temp monitor states 38-41C at boot, after a 3dMark 2001 test, the logging graph shows a peak of 50C, immediate drop to mid 30s.

No amount of dropping the dividers helps, upping Vcores, or the Vdimm, etc, and so on.
At a 220 FSB, there is NO booting, forget about even loading the benchmarks...let alone completing the test.

There HAS to be more legs in this rig than this!!!

What am I doing wrong, or, what's "broken," is it the wrong "OS," or, am I just a nOOb that's...
"Old and Senile!!!"
