I have never done this so please bear me.

I have a new system that has a q6600 cpu a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Motherboard, A Leadtek PX 9600 gt Video card, A Raptor Hd, 4 Gig of OCZ Reaper 4-4-4 pc2 6400 ram, and a Zalman CNps9700 Cpu Fan.

For starters, you can go into your bios and up the front side buss to 1200 to 1333, maybe even 1440, without a CPU voltage increase and immediately see a little faster speed

The Zalman HSF should cover provide good CPU cooling assuming your in a cool climate presently

Not to sound stupid but when you say fsb in my bios i don't see fsb what i do see is cpu clock ratio set to 9
Cpu host frequency= 266 is that the one to change?
If so i can go from 266 to 1000 and it will boot?

As i said i have never done this before so please bare with me.

madhyena agrees: Yes and No. The FSB is multiplied by 4, so 266*4=1066, that's your current bus speed. You should aim
for 300-350.

Yeah like MadHyena listed, 266x4=1066 is your base stock FSB speed and a 300x4=1200 host frequency should be a good starting point.

You can experiment even higher once you prove that 300 is a stable overclock.

no - you have a quad 266 front side buss = which is 266 x 4 = 1066

if you up the 266 to 300 you should equal 1200 fsb - which will up your CPU speed to around 2.6 to 2.8ghz from your stock 2.4ghz

If your skeptical about overclocking - its time to read up and google a bunch of information about what to do!!

Thanks for explaining my question is is see posts saying they are running this chip at 3.0 and higher how do they get that speed?

One more thing my Motherboard comes with easyTune and there are settings in there to overclock there are 3 choices one makes it 3.20 fsb=1600 and the other 2 are faster if i click on the first one the machine locks up is that a voltage thing?

I wouldn't do anything above a 300 front side buss as a first time overclock. It will allow you a speed increase without having to change any voltage settings at all

I wouldn't do the 3.20 fsb = 1600 cause thats twice the speed of your ddr2-800/PC6400 ram

You might fry/cook the ram by doing that!!
