Is it worth it? (noob!)
I've been thinking a bit. I have a quite decent (in my opinion) rig, but it's starting to slack a bit with newer games, skyrim, LA Noire etc, and since I can't afford building a new one at the moment, and my birthday is half a year away, I thought perhaps I could get some more juice out of it by overclocking.
I searched around some, and this board seemed like a nice place to start!
It's a custom rig me and my dad bought a couple of years ago, I've replaced some ram and the hdd over the time but the rest has been there since.
Since I've never tinkered anything at all with these kind of things, I'm not sure if I SHOULD try, or if it's even worth it.
What do you guys think?
Here's my hardware, pulled from SiSoft Sandra:

(Yeah, I know I should replace those rams, and I am getting some 2gb's for Christmas so that should be alright!)
Looking forward to any replies, and I don't know if I should have put this in the GPU overclocking board rather, because I just want more juice, I don't really care where it comes from

Honestly just replace the video card to something like a 6950 1gb card would do you more than having more ram. Sure ram is good but your video card was lacking when it was new let alone 3 years later

In my opinion you might want to upgrade the ram sooner than later....(less than a $100 for 4GB of ram)
With better ram you'll be able to OC that CPU...you have a decent ASUS mobo.
Just remember all ram OC's differently....as you can see in my sig I can only get my CPU to OC to 3.8 stabe.
As far as Videocards go I would go with something a little lower end like say an GTX 460...got mine for $134 on sale + shipping.
I can play any game out there 1920 x 1080 with everything maxed out
If you decide to upgrade your rig in the near future you can always SLI another GTX 460.
I've seen some benchmarks where the GTX 460 SLI'd compares to a GTX 480 and GTX 580.
SO GTX 460 SLI'd = $300-$400
GTX 480=$574
GTX 580=$500-$600
Again just my opinion
