Did I overclock properly? (first time)
Hey Guys,
Being that I have one of the more overclockable chips on the market (core2 e8400) I decided to delve into the realm of overclocking for the first time. I did my research, and read all the forums, and I think I have a moderate OC, but wanted to make sure that what I have done sounds normal.
My current set up is as follows:
Intel Core2Duo e8400
6gb Wintec AMPX ram DDR2 800 (all ram slots filled)
Zotac 8800gt Video Card
Biostar TP43 motherboard.
The first thing I did was incrementally raise the FSB (default is 333). I was able to get the FSB to about 380+ without modifying any other voltages before the PC would blue screen. Once it did that I started raising the DDR2 voltages with my FSB. What I ended up with is a 390 FSB, and a 1.9v on my DDR2 (up from 1.8).
I have noticed not a single change in my CPU temp (idles about 26 c, and 55-58 when running Prime95 or the Intel Burn test. I am able to run both of these programs without error, but what other changes would need to be made to go higher than the 3500mhz I am now clocked at? How far can the voltage on the RAM be raised? I havent messed with the Vcore on the CPU yet, but not sure when I would actually need to do that anyway. I'm sure the fact that I have all 4 ram slots filled isnt helping...
The multiplier is currently at 6. I'm not sure if I have changed that from stock (if I did - I did not know).
