In this case, DCR is referring to "Dynamic Contrast Ratio".
What the 226BW does to improve contrast is increase or reduce the backlight brightness dynamically in order to improve the black levels of darker images and increase color reproduction and brightness on more vibrant images. If I'll be honest, I don't like using the dynamic contrast mode on my 226BW because watching the backlight change brightness on moving images is not exactly ideal. So basically expect the actual panel to have a 700:1 contrast ratio, which is excellent either way you look at it.
For buying monitors, I suggest that you go out to your local computer store and take a look at some floor models before you decide to buy one. Things from the OSD to the way the particular screen may look on your desk and how the image looks like to you will be the deciding factors. Since you are going to spend so much time looking at it, I really strongly suggest you do that. Personally, I love mine, and its a great screen. Hope this helps you out!
