Resolution problem

Hi Gang

New to this forum but not new to computers, monitors, etc.

Now to briefly explain my problem, I have had this problem for some time, enough time that I have tried a lot of things to correct this, driver updates, cmos battery changes, etc. I mean I have tried so many things it is hard to remember all of them.

I have 2 computers using one Monitor, a Samsung 226bw, connected to a KVM switch. My #1 computer works like a champ, everything stays in place and the resolution never changes, no problems here. Now the #2 computer is the one with resolution/icon problems. When ever I start it up in the morning all the icons are all over the place, and the resolution is wrong, I can right click on the desk top, and click on detect, and it goes from a generic to my Samsung monitor, I click on ok and then I have to reset the icons. The normal resolution for my monitor is 1680 X 1050.

I can shut this # 2 off all day long and it will come back with everything in place, but when I shut it down over night, that is when everything changes. Like I said I have checked so many things, I shut down both my computers every night, and during the day if I am going to be gone for a long length of time.

Well that is a brief idea of the problem, if any more info is needed just let me know. I have a video card, Nvidia 8800, and I have tried old drivers new drivers, etc. Nothing changes this problem. When I click on detect, the apply button is always grayed out, it only gives me the choice of ok or cancel.

Thanx.....Gunny

I think your house has ghosts and spirits who know how to work on the computer kidding try replacing the splitter to monitor ... I solved it differently to my house. I have a monitor that has DVI and VGA, so you hook the two computers without any problems and I have to monitor the key to switch the picture. Monitor HP 1940 19 ", is the star but it works

Resoluton [problem

Hi nenix

You might be right about the ghosts, at times I think some of the problems I have with computer has to be generated by ghosts.

Any way I thought this was a popular forum but I see it has taken a long time for anyone to reply to my post.

Thanx for your's. I have done a lot of research and question asking about this and what I have come to the conclusion is this. Nothing is broken in the sense of the word. It is the use of adapters, going from VGA to DVI. I have read a lot about this and so many agree some work in some situations and some don't And a lot agree that they work and they do let you adapt but they work but not completely. Especially going with Video.

So my solution is to get a newer KVM switch with DVI, and no adapters used.

Thanx....Gunny

I think that with the splitter, but you lose quality, so you do not matter if one computer is the VGA input ...
