Q: Compaq FP7317 LCD prob (how to open?)

hai

Can anyone tell me how to remove the plastic cover on it?
It doesn't take power in anymore.
I reckon there is a fuse in the monitor i need to replace. PSU in worst case. Or it's just bust.
But for now, i just need to get in it.
Any suggestions?

cheers!

Usually you need to take the stand off before you can do anything... Not sure about your specific model, but that is generally the case. Are you sure that it is not turning on at all? Is the LED on the front going on at all? Is there any faint picture visible, or is there no life in there at all? Guess you'll have to take a quick look if not. Best of luck!

yes, the stand was off, but i didn't get the plastic stuff off of it.
i gave it little force and now it's open (started from the bottom-left-side. 1 hook just popped open and rest of it was relavently easy )

there was no life in it, atleast in a led, becuse it didn't light up.
i got to the fuse now
need to get a new one from somewhere now(just for trying). it says "T3.15AH250V"
3AMP fuse would do the job maybe?

I have exactly the same problem with an FP7317 I have just been given. If you smell the power supply card that has the fuse on it, does the power transistor in the centre have a slight molten smell to it? Mine has, so I'm on the lookout for a replacement card. I will let you know how I get on.

fp7317 power problem

Did you ever find a replacement pwr supply board for your monitor and would you mind sharing the info. Also my green pwr available light doesn't even blink or come on for that matter so I dissassembled the monitor but could not locate the 3.15 amp fuse on any of the boards any ideas.
Any help would be muchly appreaciated. Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't open a monitor. This is a job that should only be done be professionals. There are components inside your monitor that can store high amounts of electricity for long periods of time. They can be extremely dangerous, and in some cases even fatal.

Unless you know what you're doing....don't attempt it.

No I haven't found the board so I am going to replace the power transistor, either from Maplins or a friend that works in a video electronics company. I will keep you posted.

I have the same problem with an FP7317 and am searching for a power board for the monitor. I will post here if I find one and I hope that if any of you others are successful in the search, you would also let us know your source.

Thanks!

Thanks for your concern, but in my case I am a qualifed radio and tv engineer. Admittedly, my qualifications are a mega old now (I'm 58), but I know a fair amount about the new gear. I usually work from circuit diagrams, but HP keep everything close to their corporate chests so it is impossible to download a diagram for this monitor.

Nilpo agrees: I'd say that counts as qualified...just don't want to anyone getting hurt.

FP7317 failure

Also my FP7317 lcd monitor died suddenly. I tried opening the monitor but the fuse was not broken. It was not possibly to identify any broken component at first sight. I am pretty sure the problem lies in the power system. Have you succeeded findind the power board or repairing your LCD?

Best regards

Davide,
Does your green/ amber light come on? Mine did not. I found that my unit has power up to part Q903, which is a rectifier of some sort. I also found that R932 is showing an open condition but I cannot identify what resistance it should be. I can find the part Q903 but don't know what to replace the resistor with. Is yours intact and can you measure it?
Al

Hi Al,

The light remains off at all times. I am so sorry but I already reassembled the monitor so it is not an easy task to access the internal board. I hope to have some spare time in the near future in order to disassemble it and try to answer to your question.

By the way, a friend of mine have been able to find an electrical diagram of Liteon power board U170ATA/U170BT. As I assume your LCD is still open can you check if the circuit board report an identification number?

thank you

Davide
