Old monitor:

Hi,
My monitor has packed up but i have a very old ADI SD500 from many years ago.... but can't figure out how to attach a power lead???
There is no where to put one... it states 12V on the back and has two indivudual holes adjacent to the sealed cord

Throw it in the trash! It sounds like an old CRT monitor and it isnt worth repairing as it would cost more to repair than the price of a new flat panel.

Help me make monitor decision

I hope this thread is all right for my questions. I am a new member and this is my first post. I need to purchase a new monitor. The monitor I am now using is a Gateway FPD2485w. For my purposes I have enjoyed it for the past four years, it having been part of the purchase of a package bought at Costco with a Gateway GM5410E tower. I have recently taken delivery of a Dell XPS 8300 which I customized on Dell's site. It is much more than I need, as I am not a gamer (almost 69 years old!) and primarily use my computer for email, creating documents, and surfing the web (where I found this very useful site). I will be giving my old tower to my son and daughter-in-law. I was thinking of using my current monitor with the new computer and buying a 21.5" flat screen to go with the old tower. I do have a digital camera and ordered Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements with the Dell. I hope to learn how to use this software to improve the pictures I take. I am concerned that my old monitor may not be the best for my intended purposes. The Dell tower comes with an ATI Radeon HD 5670 video card. I don't know whether this current monitor can be expected to last much longer and if it has the specs to handle the new card and some photo editing. I could give the monitor along with the tower and pay a lot more for an appropriate monitor for myself. I don't know that I need to go to a larger screen so I need advice (should I hear that I really should change monitors for my new computer) on whether to go with an LED panel or jump all the way to a H-IPS panel. Thank you for your comments and I hope this long first post is not found offensive in any way. I now have to learn the differences in Windows 7 and Microsoft Word 2010. Again, I thank you in advance for your help in making the right decision.

No matter what you do with your old monitors, just remember to never dispose of them with regular garbage. The chemicals inside them can be dangerous, plus you can be fined for dumping monitors in with other trash.
