it means your monitor is getting the wrong signal from the computer. maybe your vga to rca adapter is at fault?

no , the monitor is not hooked up to the computer, im just trying to use my monitor as a tv basically. I have dvd recorders which are hooked up to a quad processor via a/v cables then i bought the vga to rca adapter thinking i can hook the vga end into the monitor and then the rca end into the quad processor. Im just trying to use it as a tv, its not going to be hooked up to a computer at all

the error message is produced by your monitor, not the computer. one of your components is causing the message. maybe you should just use a tv?

just because I need this system to go mobile, and my monitor is smaller than a tv, is there any clue though to what would cause this error

Well i get this sometimes when games start up and test for peek resolution, it basically means that the monitor can't receive the signal that is being put into it. Maybe this is a similar problem? Try a different monitor or try dropping the input resolution/frequency?

Good luck

The problem can be a few things from Vid card overheating, resolution too high or as simple as a driver issue.

If pressing f8 and changing the resolution doesnt work, then you should try installing the appropriate drivers and if you have already then revert to Plug and Play monitor driver.

Let us know how you get on please.
