Monitor to TV problems: Black/White TV...no color.

Ok, here's the situation. I've got my sound going just fine. My graphics card has S Video but my tv does not. So, I'm using an S-Video / Composite adapter to send the video to my TV. However, this gives a black/white picture. The TV settings indicate I have color (indeed it does when I plug the Gamecube or PS2 in). The computer settings indicate I have color. The graphics card indicates I have color.

I'm using a GeForce FX 5200. TV is a Sony Trinitron Wega model: kv-20fs100, serial: 4200323

Bit of help?

Should also ask this: Are there TVs that just *cannot* hook up to a computer? I was on the phone with Sony tech support and the lady said that my TV can't ever possibly hook up to a computer. She didn't sound like she knew what she was talking about though. According to her, I shouldn't be getting sound or a black/white picture from the computer. -_-

I don't think she knew what she was talking about. I don't know about the black and white. Do you have a TV with S-video to test out he computer with? I think it might be because the conversion from s-video to composite. My radeon has a dongle thing for the TV connection that has connections for S-video, Composite, and a couple of others. Try andsee if you can find the dongle thing for you vidcard.

Hej, i have the same problem..
everything is working just fine, but it's in black/white..
it really pisses me off. A computer wizzard at my college-home
says its a very common problem and he says that the scart-connection
(the cable) doesn't suit between your tv and pc. He says that another
cable (another kind of cable. or a different brand..) can solve it by itself..
but I think that isn't the problem..

contact me if you know a solution to the problem.
I will ask some computer-wizzards to come by to see
if they know the solution and then i will inform you too.

greetings.
Remy..

littleman - s-vid cable is for picture only, you will need another cable for sound.

shawn - I had the same problem and alli had to do was to press the av button on the remote a couple of times to loop it back.

I just use a cable with a jack connection into my sound card and the other has a neat scart connection (i assume with only the sound bits used). But you can get the jack to jack cables that will do the job.

Red face ok...I am new here so don't laugh please...black and white problems

ok..here is the situation, I am connecting from my TV to my Tv tuner card through:

TV out cable is composite on this end and on the other which is
TV tuner in is S-video, and I am getting black and white picture. and I can't seem to get rid of this
problem its so anoying, and it happens so that we don't have a TV with s-video conenction, they are
all composite, if I connect the composite to composite on my TV tuner I don't get anything at all.
but when I take the s-viseo cable from the TV tuner and install the drivers again, my TV tuner which is connected to rabbit ears
gets in color..so here is the situation, I wish to know any one fixed this problem?

I have Geforce fx 5200 video card
Tv tuner pixel view playtv pro
and I have the latest drivers from thier site.

thanks boys and girls.

Black&White Fix

advance2life,
I've had this problem before when connecting to TV's there are 2 things you want to look for, refresh rates and if PAL or NTSC. In the U.S. it should be set to NTSC or NTSC-M and have a refresh rate of 60Hz, in Eourpe you want PAL. This fixed my problem, hope it helps.
