Monitor Problem or Video card?

Hopefully you guys can help me with this. I have a 19" Dell LCD connected to an ATI FireGL X1-128. The problem occurs when I try to connect via a digital cable, even before the BIOS, the screen flickers, and the colors are very unusual (purple for black).

When window finally boots, the image stabilizes but the colors remain garbled and flickering in the background. None of this occurs when connecting via an analog cable w/ a digital/analog adapter (the card only accepts digital connections).

So here's my question: is it the digital output on the monitor, or is it the cable?

I have downloaded the most recent drivers for both - running Win2k

Mike

I don't think that your software is to blame, that sounds like a hardware issue. Have you tried a different cable? You could probably pick one up, test it to see if that fixes it and return it if it doesn't.

Well I took a guess that it was the card and not the monitor, the the display functions fine in analog.

Replacement card will be here Monday, either way I'll post the result in case anyone has a similar problem in the future.

Card is an ATI FireGL X1 128, the guys at ATI said it could very well be the card.

Mike

**edit: this post should probably be moved to the video cards section...
