HP w2408 quality control?

Just got an HP w2408 as a gift. It looks great except for one defective pixel near a corner, which is always green. Since the item was purchased online, exchanging it would be a pain. Should I bother trying? I don't expect the one pixel to bother me much, and if it's pretty much inevitable that every model will have a bad pixel or two, I'm happy with this. But if most of them are perfect to start, maybe it's worth the hassle of swapping it out?

Pretty nice gift! All LCD monitors can (and usually do) develop bad pixels and is just a fact of life in the wonderful world of technology. Unfortunately yours had a bad pixel out of the box....which happens. I agree returning items like this purchased online is a pain unless the vendor will do a cross-ship and pay for the return shipping. But even then it's a crap shoot. You can get a good one, or what if the replacement comes with a bad pixel in the middle of the display? Or more than one bad pixel? If it were me, I wouldn't worry about a bad pixel in the corner. It'd be much more annoying in the middle of the screen. And if you'd have to pay for return shipping, there's no way I'd worry about that one pixel!

This is exactly why I never purchase items like monitors online.

Thanks for the response. Actually I did that Java pixelfix thing (I can't remember the name) that quickly cycles every pixel randomly through all colors for 20 minutes or so, and that took care of it after a few tries. Neat trick! Anyway, it looks great now.

Thanks for the heads-up on Pixel Fix. I'd never heard of it but did a search and have it bookmarked in case I need it.

Glad to hear it fixed your problem...and enjoy the new monitor. I just got a Samsung 245BW 24" and it's fantastic.
