Dual Monitor Output

Ok, I am just trying to set up and am kind of a newb on it, but yeah, I have two monitors hooked up to my Radeon 9000 and im using the extend desktop feature, which is cool by itself, but when i try to play counter-strike on one monitor and want to have messenger on the other say when i move my mouse over to the other desktop cs minimizes, how can i fix this so that i have one monitor for gaming and one monitor for messenger and other processes etc.
