Dell Genesis LCD High-pitched noise

I got this Dell Genesis LCD computer monitor from a friend. It was built in '01 and has a beautiful picture and crisp colors. DVI and VGA inputs. The only thing happening to it is that it emits a very high-pitched noise whenever there is a lot of white on the screen. Darker colors make it whine less and black makes it go away completely. I took apart the monitor, and found out that the actual Genesis chip is what's making the noise. Could it just die at any moment?

To make it better understandable, it kind of sounds like a CRT whine if that makes any sense.

For now I've been using dark wallpapers and dark Windows themes to make it not as noticeable.

Thanks!

I'm now thinking that the power brick to this monitor may be going bad and causing problems. When connected to my computer, a low frequency hum comes out of all the speakers, and it changes based on the level of white on the screen. (More white = more high pitched, annoying noise. More black = almost no noise.) Do lighter pixels use more power than darker ones? I'm thinking of buying a second power supply since this one has a brick. Also, my second monitor is connected to the same outlet and has no issues at all. Runs perfectly, but is almost 8 years newer.

If you can measure the voltage coming out of the power supply it might help determine the problem. You also need to be able to measure the current being drawn by the monitor.

If it is not outputting sufficient voltage under load the LCD power circuitry is probably trying to step this up higher which can cause the noise you mention usually from an inductor and switching circuitry.

If the current drawn is to high (and the voltage is correct) then something in the LCD is failing.
