Best LCD for reading text

I am not up to speed on the monitors, so I've decided to ask you for help.

I'm looking for the best LCD for reading text (meaning the easiest on the eyes). Money and size are not important. From my research the important points of a monitor, given my parameters, are contrast and dot pitch. So my question is which LCD monitor out there has the highest contrast and the lowest dot pitch. It's also important that it's not glossy (doesn't reflect light).

Sorry but cannot recommend models as I am in Australia.

One other thing to consider is a good vertical and horizontal viewing angle otherwise that good contrast deteriorates quickly when viewing from angles. Most do have good figures these days but just something to be wary of.

Resolution is very important, at the extreme and you could consider something like the Apple 30" monitor which can also be run on PC that supports dual DVI monitors and there are other brands out there like it.

The viewing angle doesn't bother me because it's for my pc and I'll always be directly in front of it.

You're right, the res is important.

Here's an excerpt from an article I recently wrote:

Lately monitors based on LCD-TFT technology have taken over the marketplace. During the past few years, the trend was to aim for really fast response times (lower ms is better). Some people went way too far, ignoring other factors, such as brand reputation, contrast ratio, native resolution, monitor dimension, etc. I’m here to announce that the race toward the fastest response times is over.

Not so long ago a new competition started in the game of searching for eye-catching high-quality LCD monitors. People have realized that it’s not all about milliseconds, because the response time was almost always better than satisfactory. Also, nowadays most of the popular manufacturers have 5ms and 2ms response times for all of their models, including budget, mid-end, and high-end.

Therefore, the decisive factor of this generation’s LCD monitors is contrast ratio. And we can’t forget about the wide panoramic design. It’s an absolute advantage. Contrast ratio, on the other hand, is really important, almost crucial. This is what makes the black really black and the white blatantly white. It plays a major role in the display of color shades. A “decent” monitor with an advanced contrast ratio does wonders.

I'd suggest reading the whole review, though, because it covers lots of technical details on what to look after prior purchasing an LCD. Here's the link: LG Flatron L194WS 19 Wide LCD Monitor. You might also check out the Buying a New LCD Guide sticky that one of our fellow forum contributors wrote, Yeti.

I usually use very large fonts so, I think, that would decrease the relevance of pixels per inch, since it's easy to discern the shape of large objects. It would seem to me that the most important parameter would be the blackness of the black that a monitor can display(I use white text on a black background). Would you agree?

Yes, that is what madhyena referred to in the excerpts posted as contrast ratio.
