Apple LED LCD Equivalent?

I work with a project that turns over a lot of equipment (we are given donations and we pass them on - a lot of throughput), and so I've seen a LOT of monitors. Even those that are considered very high-end, however, don't compare with the glass display of my 15" MacBook Pro and iMacs I've seen (and presumably standalone Apple LED LCD's as well).

However, I don't have $1,000 to throw at a monitor, so I'm wondering, is there anything that can compare to that level of crispness and visual appeal without breaking the bank? I've looked at many other very nice non-glass monitors, but they all seem somehow flat or matte.

I personally use a 24 inch Dell Ultrasharp - it's model Dell UltraSharp U2410. About half the price of the LED Cinema display and has as good as color reproduction but doesn't have as many pixels. You'll have to decide whether that's a deal breaker. If it is the 27 inch Dell Ultrasharp is also a bit cheaper and has 1.07 billion colors rather than just the true color Apple Cinema Display with 16.7M.
