Dell and Apple were the first to market with the 30" 2560x1600 LCDs a few years back, now dell is on their 2nd or 3rd generation, and samsung, HP, and a few other manufacturers are selling them aswell.
They make great gaming monitors, but you really have to have some serious graphics power to play 2560x1600 on high details, and if if you just need the real estate for desktop use or something other than gaming, then dual 24" LCDs work out cheaper and with more raw pixels to work with - 3840x1200 in extended mode. Not to mention at about $400 each it works out cheaper...hell thats 4x 24s you could get for roughly what a 30" costs ya, and 7680x1200 would make one hell of a panoramic display
30" models remain the premium, but 24"s are much more practical as a single $250 video card is enough to drive most if not all games at 1920x1200 on high, and you have a larger selection of panels. I want a 30" for sure, but I just cant justify the price either
