Continuum/Subspace
Hey everyone I just thought I'd let everyone know about a free game that has been around for years.
Continuum is the offshoot of MMO pioneering shooter, SubSpace, published in 1997 by Virgin Interactive Entertainment and abandoned soon thereafter. Because the game consumed so many lives, we couldn't let it die. So a few passionate pilots rebuilt the client, cleaned up the servers, and established a user-driven renaissance for one of the greatest games ever to grace the PC. Their efforts resulted in the game now known as Continuum.
Continuum began with a few zones, referred to as SVS zones, where ship settings kept true to their SubSpace origins. These classic zones retain the oldest populations and most skilled players, along with extremely competitive and balanced league play and some of the craziest personalities out there.
Since re-launching as Continuum, there's been significant growth in custom zones, where the ships' looks and settings often vary widely. The action is usually more fast-paced and casual.
If you're looking to develop your own game, Continuum provides server, developer, and game designer tools so you can customize Continuum into any kind of side-scrolling 2D shooter action game you can imagine!
Continuum has been around since 1995, so there's obviously much more to this amazing game than we can place on this page. We've got intense leagues, a great community, awesome squads, and some of the most addicting gameplay you'll find online. It's lasted this long for a reason.
So download Continuum, drop by a zone, and indulge. Download the game instantly if you search for Get Continuum in Google. It's fast, easy, and one of the most addicting games you will ever play. We are just trying to get more people to play again so we hope you come join us.

I'm not sure who you are, or what zone you play. "SVS" is laughably NOT Standard VIE Settings any longer. I'm from Chaos Zone and was a happy pilot until a few years ago. That aside, there still are a few players there. The population is dwindling. The staff, mainly "hallucination" has been changing settings (sometimes seemingly at random) to "improve" playability, balance, learning curve..whatever, to no avail. That particular zone has been reduced to cater to league pilots. Hence me being a retiree.
Perhaps a few posts like this across various boards might help. The influx of truly new players has been negligible over the past couple years. Every time I see a glimmer of hope for things going back to the old days, some terrible and impulsive choice is made to drag the game down. Not listening to a smaller and smaller population isn't the best way to make them happy.
In closing, I will say that subspace/continuum should have appeal to gamers that are looking for something different or old-school. The learning curve is steep. The challenge is there. The community still accepts new players in a welcoming way. I encourage you, the reader, to give it a try. My personal belief is that it's on it's way out. There's still hope, but it gets smaller year after year. Enjoy it. It's a piece of gaming nostalgia and multi-player online history.
