BAttlefield 2 Stats and Update Help
I recently purchased the Battlefield 2 Deluxe Edition from Target and have no problems playing the game. My computer has Windows Vista and I've noticed that recently most of my stats are not being recorded. It says I've received medals and I'll disconnect and return to the BFHQ and the medals won't be there. It's frustrating because all of this is delaying my progress to unlock new weapons. The servers are ranked btw. So I figured that maybe I needed to patch the game. I noticed that I was running on a lower version but when I downloaded the latest patch (1.41), the game still didn't update to 1.41. So the problem with the stats persists. The installation runs smoothly and it does say that it's complete. I've also restarted and re-installed the game and reinstalled the patch without any success. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for responding so quickly. The server thing makes sense, but what about the patching? Should I worry about it or not? Also, I am playing battlefield 2 on a Dell XPS laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 and am worried that Battlefield 2142 won't work on it? Any clue whether it would?

One thing to remember about stats in BF2 and 2142 is that your score only counts if your in an "official" ranked server, and once you receive a medal or award, you have to complete the game your in and once the round ends, and the new map loads, thats when the stats are updated, if you gain a medal and then leave straight away, you will not be awarded the medal. There are some servers that are modified to allow you to use your unlocked gear, but will not be ranked. The best servers for stat hunting are generally the EA servers as your stats seem to update more often from those, at least thats how I have experienced it.
But its also worth noting that BF2 is very slow with stats, sometimes it'll take days for an award to show up for you, ive even had instances where, for example, I was not awarded the basic or silver ground defense badge, but as soon as i had enough stats for expert, that badge appeared and I never saw the first 2 levels. As for the patch, when you try to install it do you see an error message? Or does the process go fine but seem to have no effect? If it crashes when you try to install it could be a corrupted installer or your game is running a different version than what the incremental patch is supposed to install with. It is best to have the latest patch because most servers will run the latest version, in fact...perhaps running the older version is having the impact on your stats. But if the patch isnt working, you may have to just reinstall the game, then reinstall the latest patch. Im not certain if there is a 1.41 full patch or if its just an incremental patch, but its always best after a reinstall to install the latest full patch, then the latest incremental patch. As for 2142, the best setup for decent playability is something like a modern dual core processor, 1-2gb of memory, and at least a 6600GT/9800 class video card. the go 7400 will be a little bit lacking, and you will have to knock down the settings a fair bit, but I would expect its quite playable once you have things set and try to avoid the 64 man servers I play both games, and enjoy em very much. I just wish EA cared enough about em to release patches more often to fix issues.

Thanks again for the response. I know that the level and stuff has to load for the stats to count. But I didn't know there was a difference between an official ranked server and just a ranked server. I did try to re-install the game and the patch, and it still doesn't work. At least, the game doesn't change. When you boot up the game and your at the screen where you choose your log-in, doesn't it display the version number in the bottom left-hand corner? If so, then the patches haven't changed it. That's what I meant by it not working because I expected it to change version # or something like that. I really wish that Battlefield 2 came with an AutoUpdate or something similar instead of downloading patches from other sites and stuff. It would be a lot easier.

Same inconsistent version being reported issue
Quote:
I'm running into exactly the same behavior with a new install of the retail product. I've tried running two different patches now (1.22 and 1.41) and although both have indicated they completed successfully neither caused the reported version number to change. Also, I couldn't determine the file or product version from the .exe properties as with most games. *sigh* Guess I'll keep looking for both of us?! UPDATE -> I discovered on another forum about the patches that apparently: "The official (in-game) version number for 1.4 [v2] is 1.1.2940-772.0." Makes sense to me. Yep. Completely intuitive. ![]() Last edited by scalpod : August 9th, 2007 at 02:38 AM. Reason: Found updated information |

Good to know I'm not the only one experiencing the patching problems. I will say that whoever posted above and said something about EA servers was right. Just search them and almost any of the ones that pop up are ranked and will count your stats.

Correct internal version number for 1.41 patch (final)
Quote:
I've confirmed that the internal version number I'm now seeing (1.1.2965.797.0) is the final 1.41 patch. Just wanted to be sure you knew the latest/greatest for reference. Happy hunting! ![]() |
