Thermaltake Case Problem

I have just finished working with a TT Soprano case but to begin with had some problem getting the PSU into place due to TT mounting the external I/O ports like audio/firewire and USB at the top, rather than the side or on the front of the case like most conventional cases. This image shows what i mean.

I removed the I/O, struggled a bit but got the PSU in and then screwed the I/O back in. Everything seemed fine and i continued with the build. However, now when i push down on the lid to 'pop' it up, the rear hinges come out and the whole lid can be removed. I always thought it was a flimsy design but come on! I checked the plastic lid for stress marks on the hinges in case i bent it in anyway and there are none. As far as i know, i removed and mounted it in exactly the same way yet it pops up? Anyone know if this is normal behaviour as i cannot quite remember if this happened before - i don't think it should - but if i press the lid from the middle, then it pops up and closes as normal.

If anyone can give me a tip on how to fix this/whether it is normal behaviour or if i have mounted this wrong, then that would be great. For the future though, i may just stick to Antec...

hmmm

I know it's harsh, but i am inclined to think that it is a fault of thermaltakes behalf. A fault in the design process. I never got on with my Themalrock eclipse either. Flimsy. Sharp in places. Overall awkard to work with. I had to make sure the PSU was fitted first to stand any chance of doing it well enough.

Then i took the plunge and bought the Silverstone TJ09. My god

It is such a good case, and wouldn't go back. I can't help you any further. Maybe get in contact with them about it.

Hope it turns out well for ya. people like you deserve it

- Paul

Thanks man I got the TT because it was on offer with Google Checkout. I also thought it could be a design flaw but as long as you press it in the middle, the hinges don't pop-up so i guess we'll just live with it as i don't think it will be used very often.

I too was pretty annoyed to have put the motherboard, graphics, hard drive etc. in and then only to find i couldn't get the PSU in from the back! So i had to strip it apart and get the PSU in first - I like easy access to remove most parts without taking everything apart just in case that component fails. It is a good quality brand PSU (Hiper) but you never know.

You could always cut out the top, if you don't need the connections, and mount a fan, or a window.

You never know it might make a nice difference to your case. I'm in the middle of modding my Gigabyte Aurora case. I've already put in a side window, and now I'm putting in 2 x 120mm fans, so that my HSF and gfx card get the required cold air.

On another note, I also have a Hiper Type R (if thats the one you have) and it was a pain to get it in my case, even though it has plenty of room.

No, i went for the cheaper Type M because it was on the Google Checkout offer. If i'm correct, the type R is modular? Anyway, i managed to do a pretty handy job of cable-tidying and was happy to see all connectors were sleeved - that made it easier. In fact, it's hard to see where the cables are coming from when you look through the window
