Screw that box... I guess if you just want to play some MP3s, but... I'll stick with my two turntables

Although if used correctly I guess it could complement a set of Technics...

One thing I noticed though. The CD drives are still exposed on the front of the flight box.. any real use and those won't last more than a year.

Look at the sides by the CD drives. See those butterfly catches? Theres a cover that goes over the front.

And turntables are all very well if you're a club DJ or god forbid a "Bedroom DJ" but any mobile DJ who remembers lugging half a dozen 100 capacity flightcases full of 12"s can see the advantage of taking one box. With that system you have the real advantage of MP3s. Instead of carrying a few hundred tunes you can carry 20,000+ Not so much an issue for club guys but for mobile its a real life saver.

If you haven't played with PCDJ yet, especially with the DMC1 controller I suggest you give it a shot. Or if you like to be a bit more creative then Traktor DJ Studio 2 is awesome. These days there's a nifty gadget you can get for Traktor from Stanton called the Final Scratch which hooks up to a couple of turntables and allows you to use the TTs to manipulate the MP3s

Like you hinted at it depends on what you want it for. If you play weddings and school dances, that's fine, you need a huge library of music to take requests. But I don't know ANY club DJ who brings 6 crates of records to the party with him, that's ridiculous!

Don't get me wrong, I'll bet it's fun. Good friend of mine is actually supposed to get his hands on Final Scratch for a couple weeks to use in his webcast too, it should be fun as hell. I cant' afford all those fancy toys myself

I didn't lug that many around either but I know guys who did. Back in the vinyl/cd days I used to carry 2 100cap 12" cases, a 300cap 7" case and a 100cap cd case. The problem was not so much the weight as where to PUT all the bloody things!

Then of course there was the 2 cd players, twin deck console, 2 amps, 2 tops, 2 big ass bins, 2 bars of lighting effects, 2 bars of PAR cans, 4 stands, lighting contoller, smoke machine, cables, microphone, headphones and the most important piece of equipment of all....

... aspirin for my achin' back!

Damn, that's a lot of stuff

Do you still DJ? What kind of stuff do you play, or is it mostly top 10 stuff so you can hit requests?

I haven't done it for a while but I'm going to be starting again ASAP. Been doing it professionally for 10 years on and off. I'm strictly mobile/party nowadays. I've done clubs in the past and frankly they bore the hell out of me. Same tunes, same faces all the time. blech. Give me a nice wedding or a corporate bash any day.

Hehe I guess it'll depend a lot on the club but I'm pretty sick of that scene here. I really like UK nu skool and breaks, there's not a lot of that in Maine. Good luck getting things rolling again though, I'm sure those corporate gigs pay out okay

Thumbs up Memories

Well, dragging an old thread up here but I feel I have just cause to do so.

I owned and ran the company that produced these DJ Boxes, however I noted the image links no longer function, so I will try to dig out some old photo's of various DJ Boxes and also hopefully provide a link to a Full Page magazine review of one of the prototypes.

I still use one of the very first prototypes myself, however in thepast 5.5yrs I've been using it, I've upgraded the CPU, Memory, HDD size and fitted a new mixer, top panel and re-covered it in Black rather than the original Bright Yellow.

Bright Yellow was used purely to attract attention and boy, did it work. LOL

when I exhibited the Box at PLASA 2001 at Earls Court in London UK, The yellow really helped as it stood out a mile form the myriad of Black and Stucco Boxes on display.

Since now all I do are High Class Weddings I recognised the fact that I'd have to recover it in Black.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings, I'll post this and hope to post some photo's soon, if not for interest then for curiosity.

Regards,

Phil

Thumbs up Photo's as Promised.

Ok, that didn't work, as the new rules do not allow it.
