Unless you are benching/constantly tweaking your setup then a case is the way to go. It just protects your components better.
I ran caseless, or on various home made stations like that for awhile, and they are great if you are constantly messing with stuff, but more of a pain if you aren't.
Get a nice lian li case and call it a day.
