Page 3 - Cherry wood Case with water cooling

Trying to move on and be productive here. I'm continuing on to build the case. The tools I will be using are as follows:

Delta contractor saw tricked out including dual cast iron table wings with a Woodworker II blade
DeWalt Planer with digital readout for thickness
General joiner
Jet 14" Band Saw with Kreg fence and carter bearings
Several different routers
More router bits then I ever wanted to list
7518 Porter Cable 3.25 horse power router on a lift
Delta Drill press
DeWalt Scroll saw with stand

I will be making a raised panel door for the computer case. This presented a major problem in that the DVD recorders stick out. I came up with a plan to create a extension of the case that the door will shut against and not hit the DVD recorders.


Well I got some time for the next step. I've cut all the boards into workable size. The boards are thicker then needed which is what you want so that you can plane them down to a great finish.

I used my circular saw with laser and a speed square to cut them down.


Lots of cherry planks to work with here. Next stop is at the DeWalt Planer.

The DeWalt has a digital readout (add on) to insure the thickness. This is a necessity when doing cabinet building. Well I didn't have a bunch of time tonight to do much more and it takes about 1.5 hours to clean up. An the planer is very loud and the neighbors I sure would not want me to start this late.

This is a pretty sweet project... but can someone explain to me how a wood case can help with cooling? It doesn't seem like it would keep a unit cool unless it was WCed. Is that correct? I know Tale Gunner is water cooling but could you just run fans in a wood case?

I know that stack of wood looks ugly but remember it has to be planed and cut to width so if you are not a custom-ed to rough wood at the start, it will surprise you. I am used to drying my own wood and taking it to a use able and beautiful piece of wood. All wood starts this way, very rough.

I have 6 fans inside the case. 2 120mm silverstones on the radiator pulling air out. A 125mm thermaltake on the top of the case to pull air out. An 80 mm in the front to pull air in and a 80 mm on the rear to pull air out and one more on the reservoir to blow across the fins as well as a passive air vent. All those and 2 in the top PS and 1 in the bottom PS. Think that's enough or do you thing there should be more? Remember I am using Plexiglas on the sides (smoked) and I can add fans to them but I don't think I need to.

Geez, you have that covered... but you won't need that in a regular case right? I'm just saying, it seems like it would be harder to cool a wood case then a aluminum case. Hence way you need all the fans in water cooling. Is that correct?

I really do not think what the case is made out of
will make any difference in the cooling at all.
The reason I am going wood is looks.
I like wood working and computers double pleasure and for me unusual is good too. lol.
