Do you really need a rack for this? If so I dont think you'll be able to find a decently priced 2u with that many hot swapable 3.5in bays, I have seen some with 8x 3.5in bays but they are over $800. A 4u would be a much better choice, or perhaps have your system stored in a 1u and use another 1u or 2u storage sub system. Typically a 1u subsystem will come with 4x hot swapable bays and a dedicated power supply and use ESATA/infiniband SATA.

If this is just a personal project, personally I would go with a pedestal case if you need a large EATX/CEB standard board, it would certainly turn out cheaper and more than likey quieter and more upgradable. Or perhaps even a large "gamer" case, most of the big boys are EATX ready and some will fit the larger standards as well.
If your adding to an existing rack I dont know if you could do it with just a single 2u system, but maybe someone knows something I dont, Im hardly the go too guy for rackmounts

supermicro. period.

btw, rackmount is pointless unless you have a rack.

do you even know what the "u" in 2u means?

they make excellent stuff.

http://www.rackmountmaster.com/rm-2...rm214-sata.html is about the only case ive seen with more than 4, the company i work for have some cases custom built with 6 sata bays, however they are for dedicated backup systems (something along the lines of 3Tb in size) but like others have said its really not a good option unless you have a rack to put it in. 2u servers are fucking heavy, especially when full.
