Don't expect super performance from any laptop, mobile gpu's tend to be slightly underclocked to conserve power and well just aren't as powerful, mobile cpu's can be good but tend to run pretty slow in laptops. One thing you may try is your score will actually probably change a lot compared to when you are using the battery or having it plugged in, take out the batter and run it when its plugged into the wall, this is normally when a laptop will perform at full potential.

There is nothing wrong with your score.

My forcebook Vision laptop
(Intel Core Duo 1.6 (T2300), 1024MB DDr2 667Mhz, X1600 256MB real +256MB hypermemory)
Without optimizations & tweaking, 3D Mark 06: ~1800
Optimized & Tweaked: ~1900
3D Mark 05: ~3700
3D Mark 03: ~6500
3D Mark 2001SE: ~16600

Search in Google and download the Tweak Guides Tweak Companion (TGTC <known also as XPTC (XP tweak companion)>) and do some tweaking. It'll help you.
