ok so i got my new rig together, as it happens its the same memory pc133 256 mb, same power supply but the motherboard is an eagletec A30LR (it actually looks cheap like pcchips) and the processor is an athalon 2000+ XP and i kid you not, i put it all together at lunch today and set windows 98 installing, i left it till 2:15pm when i came back to reboot it and finish the install, as it happens its been sat running at 3GHz for 2 hours solid i only noticed when i reboot the system to find it wanted switching off before i could switch it on, on the way up i noticed the processor speed was 3000mhz so i put my hand in and sure enough i BURN my hand on the zalman pure copper flower i put on it, i go into the bios and the temps were in excess of 70 degrees, so i quickly kill everything, then bout 5 minutes ago i checked the multiplyer it was still at 100x100mhz i exit out and the whole thing is now back at 1250mhz, i dont know whether to be relieved or upset, either way, I want it back at 3ghz even if its just for half an hour, i havent checked whether the processor has melted yet, maybe i should

Optimized defaults for those XP2000+'s make it 1250 mhz, they're supposed to be 1667 Mhz, so you just need to up your speed to 133 from 100 and you'll have stock... as far as 3000 MHz on an XP2000+ - How did it even run? How did your motherboard supply that much voltage it would need?

yeah... wtf? from like 1250mhz to 3000mhz its well over a 100% OC, with that theres no way anybody could complain... and you said it was rock solid... wtf?

unless you mean 3000+... then i'd understand...

and just how many volts was it sucking? for it to be at 70 degrees with a zalman flower cooler... dude... wtf?

I was thinking maybe it just gave you a bad reading since it was the first insertion into the board. My sempy won't even do 3 Ghz withoutwell over 1.8V. And even then I'd be lucky. Very.

I havent a god damn clue what it was doing but it showed me 3000mhz and was happily sitting there at the end of windows 98 setup asking me to hit OK, i told the guy who gave it to me last night and he told me to stop lying, I wish i had taken a picture, I wish i hadent gone into the bios, i would have loved to see what CPUZ made of it, i spent quite a lot of time yesterday trying to get it to go back to 3000mhz but to no avail, it was most likely a one trick pony, which is a shame.

interesting, but maybe it was only some error, and that's why it was overheating, maybe it really was on 3GHz, but that was for minutes...or just maybe after installing win98, the setup did some wrong modifications in bios, and then it was stable for 10-15sec, untill you saw the temps, and shut down.

maybe it was stable for installing win98, but at those temps??? wtf it would crap in prime95/fah/spi 32MB, or if not, then it's really nice cpu, worth to buy only to OC.

im putting my money it was only because I had just put the chip in, since it has had all night to get used to it i cant get it to go back to 3000mhz, which is a shame really, i really wanted to give the chip a bit of a chance to shine before it sends itself to the bin, but alas, you shall have your benchmark score soon, and yes its now running at 1.6something

I got my firewall put together, I'll put 98 on it and bench before it's dropped down into a firewall. And yes, it's in a shoebox.
