Angry The 'Radeon Code'

Hello, Soulman here,
I have this annoying bug with my Sapphire Radeon X1650 Pro.
Every driver I have tried has not worked. I have one of the latest Via Hyperion drivers (5.16) which Ati have advised me but I still have problems. My problems include the 'Screen scrolling effect' where when you move the cursor, the display moves, on other drivers, I get my monitor going into standby,
on other drivers, my system locks totally and other ones I've tried won't let me put the display resolution above 8 colours and a resolution of 640X480. At the minute, I have no drivers installed but I can't set the resolution to 1680X1050.
Here are my specs: 1.3GHz CeleronPGA370, 512MB SDRAm Ram, Via 694X/T Motherboard, 350 Watt Q-Tech PSU

If anyone can help, I will be amazed, but please help.

Hello Soulman. This is a tough problem, now there are a few steps to take to ensure this card isn't faulty. First off, try reseating it, uninstall the card and power the machine up, then shutdown and reinstall the card (I know, it sounds weird but it's worked before). Let's not forget Onboard Video, turn that off if your board has it. If that doesn't work, you may want to find another computer to test it in. The only thing I can see that's possibly going to give you issues is your Power supply, the X1650 Pro isn't a lightweight contender and I'm not sure if 350 Watts will do it, I know my X850XT killed a 400Watt powersupply (granted a cheap one). Now I know alot of people who use Via based chipsets and are happy with them but I've had an extremely bad time with their chipsets, they always seem to cause graphical problems, I still have nightmares over the old KT333 days .

Thanks for the help but i managed to get the card to work! My thought of the radeon code: Radeon Code
Mind you, there are more cards out there that have problems. I used Catalyst 8.5 and the MMC 9.14, although my card isn't AVIVO compatible. My tip of the day is: if you can't get drivers to work, mix and match them and in some cases, reprogramme the driver .sys and .dll files. It's suicidal but its worth a try. Your X850 might have killed the PSU because the ampage wasn't enough. Stresses the PSU components too much and then it burns out (the PSU that is). I'm still using my Q-Tech 350 Watt PSU, so I'm quite happy.
When you get an X1650 Pro working, the performance is unbelievable! When using Lego Digital Designer 3D (Good for benchmarking), you get about 40FPS when building a huge 3D model. ATI gives you 2 free games when you get a Catalyst-compatible card (Half life 2- Death Match and half life 2-Lost Coast). You also get Earthsim TV with my card. Value for money, and uses a HD engine in it, but if it doesn't have a HD engine in, it does look like HD. I'm also using ATI Tray Tool to make sure the pc doesn't crash. Do you know how to raise the fan speed?

Hi everyone,
got some slightly outdated drivers working at 1680X1050.
Catalyst 8.6 works well, the PC doesn't freeze up in Google Earth and other 3D apps. I only got a resolution of 1280X1024 on a DSub cable. Now I'm using a gold-plated DVI cable which is allowing me to get a higher resolution. Before, I was using the DVI to DSUB that was included with the graphics card. ATI have finally found some stability for once in their Catalyst drivers, and performance is a lot better. Maybe they listened to their customers and actually designed beter drivers. I found out the X1650 has a HD engine on ATI's website. Catalyst 8.7 is out now, but I think I'll stay with 8.6 for now.

I got sick of 8.6 freezing up in Internet Explorer, so I decided to use Catalyst 8.7, which seems to be more stable. Haven't lost any performance, so it proves ATI can do it when they actually think. Still at 1680x1050 on that DVI cable and then I'm going to find my other monitor and use a dual screen setup. Does anyone know what it's like? If so, please tell me. My system is now back to what it was intended to be in the first place, a media centre. Does anyone know how to change the fan speed? The GPU runs a bit hot and I want to cool it down before it becomes a kettle . So now my system specs are:
1.3GHz Intel Celeron, Via 694T Motherboard, 512MB SDRAM, DVD/CD writer, CD Reader, Sapphire Radeon X1650 Pro 256MB, not having to keep replacing it with my Geforce 256.

ATI tray tools works with my x1950xt fan speed as that card allows for the speed to be changed. But i dont think your card does or you would see a tab called fan speed.

Thanks IceDragon, managed to set the fan speed and I've managed to cool the card by about 5 Degrees Celsius, by putting the fan speed at 75%. I didn't want to suck the life out of the fan, so I thought 75% will be enough, since the card came with the fan speed set at 26%.

Hi everyone! If your X1650 doesn't work, It's your chipset. Mostly Via chipsets. I've just upgraded my system with a Pentium 4 2.8GHz and an AOpen MX4SGI-N mobo equipped with an intel ICH5 (Springdale) chipset. Never had a problem since.
