Radeon X1650 Pro AGP 512 problem
Does anyone know if this card has a temp and fan sensor?
The GPU temperature and fan speed does not show up in Catalyst 9.3 Overdrive or Everest,or any other sensor app I've tried!I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me.I've had the card for about a month, and so far it runs great, but apparently I have to keep an eye on the temp and it's driving me crazy that I can't! Someone said that Riva tuner works, but I can't figure out how to use it! If it does not have a sensor,is there any other way to check it? here are my specs:P4 2.8gig cpu,Asus P4S800D-X mobo,2 gigs PC3200 ram,350 watt psu.Every thing runs great,CoD4 and other games, and everything is stable. Thanks in advance for any and all help. P.S,I'm new here and I apologize for the long post, but i'm at a loss as to what to do. ![]() |

ha, long post..I guess that makes my rantings something else
For starters, temperatures are never really a good indication of stability. You could take 2 otherwise identical cards off the shelf, and both will likely overclock differently, and be effected differently by voltage and temperature. These cards are tested to some very high standards which will exceed the operating conditions of the typical user. When a card is tested it is essentially put inside an oven and asked to run at its rated speeds, if it can do this then that batch is approved. A lot of people think that temperatures are the be-all-end-all of measuring stability but in reality some cards can run up and over 100c without any stability problems arising from it. The card is based on the 80nm RV535 and is not a particularly high end GPU, at least compared to its bigger brothers (which share the same basic architecture on a larger scale). Not all cards of this class will include a temperature sensor because these GPUs tend to be far more forgiving than the higher end models that offer 4-5x the processing power. If you were really serious about getting temperatures you could purchase a manual probe that you would attach to the heatsink, as close to the GPU die as possible...but honestly if you are having no problems right now, then heat is not a factor. You could also replace the stock heatsink with something bigger, that will cool the card better..but again, if you are stable with the stock unit then why bother spending more money? Even if you wanted to overclock the card, there is going to be very little to gain and you may be talking about spending $40 on cooling equipment just to see a 10% rise in performance of the card, where as that $40 puts you half way to an HD 4650 which offers significantly more performance, on par with the HD 3850...realistically about 2-3x the performance you could get from your existing card, assuming your P4 wont bog you down. If the card works and runs fine, I wouldn't bother messing with it. If your fan is getting too loud, you should replace it..but with temperatures alone, its not worth fussing about because the gpu is going to run as hot as it wants and 9 times out of 10, that will not effect the performance or longevity of the card.

Thanks guys
The reason I asked about a sensor was because I bought the card from newegg.ca and when I read the reviews of other people who got this card there seemed to be a lot of concern about how hot this card runs and that the fan can cause problems by not running fast enough,or can fail after a few months.I know I can replace the fan,and even put a heatsink on the the one really hot chip on the card(it's got metal covering with a hole in it so you don't burn your finger),but my main concern was overheating, and your replies have made me feel much better concerning that, because everything seems stable both before and after a few hours of gameplay, and just normal use.So thank you very much for your help and I will let you know how things are going.
