Radeon HD2600XT-no sound

I purchased a Dell computer from Dell specifically for HD output for use with a Sharp HD tv as moniter and speakers. They sold me a ATI Radeon HD2600XT which picture wise works fine after numerous trys. I bought a DVI to Hdmi adapter and do not get sound. Just from poking around, I'm not sure if this cable will provide sound. I have also seen that maybe an adaptor that I should have received might have worked. Is the sound possible through connection to the card and does it have to be a special adaptor?
Thanks.
Dave

I wanted to add that I downloaded the ATI HDMI driver and it shows that it's disconnected. I'm going to get a separate DVI to HDMI adaptor and HDMI cable and see if it recognises that. Is anyone familiar with this process? Appreciate any input.
