Need help with what I think is driver problems.
Hi, I'm having a little issue...
I got skyrim the other day and noticed things were running a bit choppy, started messing around with settings when I noticed skyrim said I was using a radeon HD 3300 series card.
I thought "Hey, wait a tic, I have a 5850... 3300 is my on board."
Well I decided to investigate further and found that DXDIAG and the advanced options on my display settings were giving the same exact information. At this point I'm a bit confused, so I uninstall the drivers, restart, use a driver cleaning utility, restart, install newest proper version back on. Still no go, so then I think, maybe I need to go to the device manager and use the update driver utility and manually select the new one from ATI. Well, after that, it displayed 5800 series and I thought things were peachy, then I restarted my computer and found that it reset back to displaying the 3300 series instead. The strange part is, when I click for more details on the 3300, it tells me that I'm using a 5800 series with the driver version that I just installed! So I thought I'd try uninstalling it with the device manager and then reinstalling it, but windows 7, of course, has different plans and keeps installing a default driver every time I remove it with that method, even after making changes to the GPEDIT.MSC and control panel options.
The on board is disabled in bios, both UMA and side port, with PCI-E was the default device.
I'm not sure if this incorrect information is causing any sort of performance problems or not, but it's annoying the heck out of me and I really want to figure out what's going wrong here. I don't really want to have to open up driver information and select the proper listing every time I restart.
My system specs are:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2ghz Processor
4gb 1600 DDR3 Ram
Radeon ATI HD 5850
Windows 7
Any help is greatly appreciated and I'd be happy to give as much information as needed to fix the issue. Thanks!
