hmm but ive never even let the damn card run for more than 5 minutes during my stability checks. the damn thing never quite worked out of the box. it artifacted due to heat from insufficient contact with GPU. the CoolRiva i gave up on even trying to install. its sitting on desk rite now. does anyone want? umm theres not really a reason to panic. i thought refurb items from newegg are 100% not returnable. but then apparently they have shown mercy and will allow me to return for replacement. thanks a ton for trying to help, means a lot. hmm and would the vantec iceberq 5 be a nice alternative to the non-fitting CoolRiva? its impossible to install without major migraines, dirty hands, a small screwdriver that i didnt have and multiple suicide attempts. AND I STILL COULDNT GET IT TO FIT RIGHT!
o and you seemed to misunderstand my meaningless bitching and whining. i DID NOT FLASH THIS ONE TO XT PERmANENTLY. i just wanted to see if the bios would work with this one too. i then flashed back when i saw a couple little conspicuous dots that soon became whole screen. when i flashed back it worked fine (not really, just sort of) afterwards it did the same crap with 3d apps and then i just bought coolriva. then that sucked. put old cooler on CAREFULLY and then worked normal for 4 hours. later after a quick chill with my friends i came back and card is artifacting from bootup. and my successful XT flash is on my other 9800pro i gave away. this one is standard with not even ATI tool installed or used ever. Core was damaged i believe from the start if refurbished cards are repaired. i think the uber artfct was inevitable. i am pretty experienced when it comes to mounting new coolers and stuff and im really careful. couldnt have possibly happened if you watched me work on it.
not trying to necro, but yeah if the core was damaged, wouldnt it be dead and not work? i mean those things are pretty damn sensitive |
nope
my entertainment PC runs a 9800XT (flashed SE 8x1) which has a completely mutilated core. The ATI Tool Cube is completely ****ed up and I have to use software rendering to render all the windows stuff - I just use it 'cause the onboard Intel chip's drivers are pathetic. If I connect to it remotely with RemoteDesktop and it doesn't have a monitor plugged in, I will lose the ability to connect a monitor. It will work in Dos/Bios but once in Windows it won't send anything to the monitor until I reinstall the video drivers. Terrible thing.
