yep you can do that to, just find your memory kind and try to find a 9800 pro bios with as close latency ram as yours. brand matters to. try doin that and flash it. 9800NP->9800PRO
9800PRO->9800XT they all work

Quick question for a noob:

Just bought an ATi 9800 PRO 128, and my memory chips say hynix on them.

Can someone point me in the direction of the correct bios for the reflash? I'm not sure what I need..thanks

What you need to do is remove the heatsink and clean off the GPU, then read what it says...R350 or R360. Then you can proceed. That is the ONLY way to be 100% sure you have an R360, there are so many different variations floating around out there now. Can't trust BIOS dumps or any software tool. If you have an R360 then I suggest trying the following BIOS link first. http://www.bricard.net/files/Club3D...128MB.Hynix.rom

okay it seems ati dosent make a reference board XT 128mb with hynix. i googled and searched for ati retail boards 128mb with hynix memory but all i came up with was 256meg cards with hynix. so im going to assume your card is a 2.8ns and i will suggest you this bios

I dont know how to read memory chips, but I saw on then F-28 Which was the only thing I could possibly think meant 2.8ns.

I'm gonna yank off my heatsink in a little bit here and check what core I have.

Once you flash the card to a 9800XT is there a way to enable the temp monitor?

Just curious, what exactly changes when you flash a 9800pro with a 9800XT bios? Does it just change the default clock speed or does it add any features?

I guess I don't understand the risk involved, just to gain a few clock cycles. I'd hate to render my 9800PRO AIW useless, just to gain a bit of clock speed, when I could just overclock if needed.

it will enable a higher ocin ability, add tighter ram timings to most bios revisions, and unlock a new feature of shader capabilities.

they don't make a XT AIW, so i wouldn't flash it. You gain teh default speeds and it it has teh R360 core, it might have the temps in and might not. Thats about it. My 9800 runs at Pro, but the flash to Pro doesn't show any gains.
