Fan on X800GT makes grating, crackling noise
I figured out where my wierd fan noise was coming from. I used the iTurbo mode on my HIS X800GT, and all of a sudden this loud crackling noise started when the fan sped up.
Sooo, can I fix this? or is the fan beginning to die? The card was bought...of damn, a few weeks more than a year ago, so i don't suppose its warranteed any more...

Probablly just needs some oil.
Pull the card out, disasemble the fan, _carefully_ take off the sticker on the back of the fan, put a few drops of fan oil (olive oil works as well) in the little hole, wipe off the plastic, reasemble your machine, and the fan should work good as new.

VGA Driver version can be found by following these steps.
Press Start, right click "My Computer", and select properties. Go to the hardware tab, enter device manager, select your Display adapter, and go to the driver tab. There it should have something like 6.5.0 as the version, meaning the 6.5 Cats are installed.
As for VGA BIOS version, depending on your card, you should see a screen stating BIOS version, date and other info as the system is booting. If not, ATiTool might work...
Looking at the pic of your card,I think you might be able to gain access to the fan without taking off the cooler. Take a look and see if there is any way to apply lubricant to the fan's motor without having to disasemble the whole damn thing.

i have no idea what to do with that
it didnt really help, no options for viewing what type of bios i had.. IN fact, I couldn't figure out how you were supposed to work it, there were no options or menues or anything.
But thanks for all the suggestions...lol
EDIT: I found ther bios version...it was in catalyst control center...haha
Ill check back once i take a closer look at the card to see what i can do about oiling the fan.
What kind of lubricant should I use? Do i have to order some from newegg or something?

I friend told me not to take my card out...he said he had the same thingy going on (fan noise) and then he took his card out to clean it and such and ended up making things worse, and now his card is completely busted.
