Ati vcr file wont play on vista

I recorded something with ati video card in vcr format on win xp. now i have win vista i cannot play this file. i have installed the software on a pc running xp and it plays on their xp but i cant find how to convert it to mpeg or what to do so i can play it on vista. im pulling my hair out can someone help me. any help would be thankful
