ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 whining noise

Hey,
I just purchased a Sony VAIO FW Laptop with 1gb of VRAM. Immediately when I turned on the computer I noticed a high pitched noise, almost like a whine, that was emitting from somewhere within the computer. I have noticed that when the computer is outputting video to an external monitor, the noise stops. I have called sony tech support and they want me to send it in for a replacement.

Does anybody know of any solutions for my problem?
