2 video cards for total of 6 monitors - extended mode
Hi,
I need 6 monitors. Each monitor shows other part. Its for trading and i need to see many charts at the same time.
I have motherboard ASUS P6T x58 and 2 video cards.
The first is ATI FIREMV 2400 X1 and the second is ATI3450
The ATI firemv support 4 monitors. It runs well.
I need to add more 2 monitors.
The best way to do it is to buy another ATI FIRMV. the problem is that this is a very expensive card.
I know that there is a cheaper solution. Firemv and regular card.
The tech support at AMD told me that they know people who did it but they will not tell me how...They do not support this configuration.
If anyone can come with the solution it will be great.
Is there an option to install both cards on the motherboard?
If so, should i do something special or just insert the cards?

The MB should have no problem, power supply needs to be bigger to drive both cards. Problem is going to be if your drivers conflict with each other. If you already have the hardware make sure you try and load the latest drivers and catalyst control centre, let us know where it gets to.

Thanks for the reply.
Do you know which driver will support it?
AMD do not want to help me....
Thanks

There is no reason why you couldnt run this configuration, with the MV1 powering 4 monitors and the 4350 powering the other 2. The system will simply detect 2 different video cards and thats all there is too it. What you will basically have to do is extract the ATI Catalyst display drivers (basically run the installer but exit after it extracts the files to c:\\ATI\support - default location). Once you have done that, go to device manager, select the HD 4350, and do update/install drivers. Point the 4350 to the driver location above, then it will install the drivers.
I dont remember if the CCC used with the fireGL cards will accept the input and let you control the card/monitor through that panel, if not you will have to install the CCC separately.
If not, your other option would be to simply pick up another FireMV/GL/Pro that uses the same drivers as the existing 2400. A card like the FireMV 2200 is only gunna set you back $95 or so, and will use the same 8.583 revision drivers used by your MV 2400. It will let you use the same software you are using already to configure your cards/monitors, and its quite honestly a very reasonable price to pay. Granted the 4350 probably set you back $40 as it is, but if you cant return it, you can easily sell it.
I always advise users to use 2 similar cards when ever possible to do a multi monitor array simply because it simplifies the drivers, software, and there is very little that can go wrong. When you mix and match cards from different series, generations, and so on..you often wind up in situations where one card may not be supported by your choice of OS/application and the other is. Beyond that, driver conflicts can become a serious issue but it is difficult to predict and will often manifest itself in different ways every time. It might mean 2 of your monitors connected to the other card could flicker on and off at random, could mean the monitors on that other card will freeze, system might crash, there is just so many things that can happen. It is rare, and these days both ATI and Nvidia do put serious effort into their drivers, but its something everyone is still cautious about and for good reason.
Pairing an MV2400 with an MV2200 will be easy, just pop the card in and reinstall the latest drivers, then configure the monitors on the 2200 as needed..thats it..
But if you want to take a chance on the HD 4350, use the installation method above and it should work alright. Even if you just ran the regular ATI catalyst drivers it should just pick up the 4350 and ignore the MV2400. Worth a shot before dropping another $95 right?
