1950x pro tearing screen up and crashing a lot with ATi drivers
This started after about 1 month of using the video card - games started crashing after screen tearing/blinking. I've tried all the latest drivers all time - now the v8.6 too, absolutely useless, crashes during the first few seconds of a game/movie. The driver which was included in the video card box worked good for a while, no display problems, but started crashing without being able to recover.
Then I installed Microsoft drivers and they seem to be doing best, but still, games/movies crash a lot. Constant screen tearing, various textures appear out of nowhere, etc. Any idea on why is this happening and is it possible to fix without buying a new card? There's a 2gb of ddr3 RAM on 800mhz speed in my system, also a 2x 2.4ghz 64bit amd athlon processor, and an asus m2a-mvp motherboard. The video card is radeon 1950x pro 256 and I have a power supply of 400W. P.S. I wouldn't think the problem is overheating, because a few test I ran displayed 55-62 degrees by celsius, never more. Thanks in advance, Prazius |

Welcome to the Forums.
The x1950pro did have a driver issue, but if you already tried the drivers that came with it you can pretty much rule that out. As for overheating, this definately would cause the card to tear drastically as would overclocking. So if your temps are not really that high your card could be faulty. Test: install ATi Traytools and underclock the card slightly and increase fan speed. Please post your findings.

Hello again.
Thanks for the tool hint, I installed it, ran some bench tests, the score was a lot higher after under clocking the video card by like 75 mhz both settings. I wasn't able to find the way to increase fan speed, though, could you direct me to that one? Furthermore, I've tried those directx and opengl profiles, with the max speed setting games seem to run smoother and almost won't tear at all. I've had my pc running for a few hours after the settings change (which was the usual time to wait before starting of all the tearing and crashing) and everything seems to be fine so far. I also adjusted some game settings to a lesser quality ones, but I think these were minor. So far no issues with viewing movies at all. |

Nope, doesn't work anymore, now I see some nasty red stripes jumping all over the screen. Guess I'll just have to get some new card.

It is under warranty, I suppose.. I live in Lithuania.
That aside, I talked with a dude who's got the same card, but his power supply is 650W, while mine is only 400W. Can that be in any way related? The power supply block doesn't seem to be overheating, it's not even actually hot from outside. |
