When to buy a new macbook pro - when will apple replace it?

I was planning on buying a macbook pro (17" and an external display), to use as my main computer for image, audio and video editing. I was told it might not be a good time to buy as apple might release a replacement or update for the current macbook pro. Can anyone advise me on this? Is there an expected release of something new?

Many thanks

Apparently the new MacBook will ship with OS X 10.5, Leopard. So whenever Leopard is released the new MacBook will be. Leopard is due in "Spring 2007"

The rumor mill hasn't been as active about Macbook pro updates/upgrades lately, so my guess is that any such thing would be months away. If you aren't in any sort of rush, then you could go ahead and wait until April/May/June to see if anything materializes, but if you need it now, then by all means get it--you won't be dissapointed. Any updates probably won't be extremely significant either, probably just a little bump in processor speed.

Legend has it that its going to have Intel Core 2 Duo 64-bit processor to match the 64-bit OS X.

Leopard was delayed until Fall 2007. So unless you want to wait until then, go ahead and buy. It's still a damn good machine.
