So I put the CD with the software for my 20GB 4G iPod and it seems as though it's going to start installing and during the intiall process I get the following error message:
"1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance, Return code: -2147024894" I googled the error and found a website that would seem as though it would help me fix the problem. I tried all the solutions provided by the website and it still didn't work. I also tried to just download the iTunes software and got the same result. I tried to install the software on my roommate's computer and it worked just fine. Any solutions? |

I'm on Windows XP Professional with SP2.
I'm the only user on the computer and I checked all my administrator rights and I have them, so I don't know what the problem is. |

That's the website I was sent to and I tried all those things and nothing worked. |

I guess I can always try them again...I'm pretty sure A and D (on that website) didn't work, but I'll try the others again.

This may seem like a stupid question, but would it be possible to install and configure eveything on my roommate's computer, then transfer the program to my computer over the network?

give this a try:
go to control panel, then administrative tools, then double click 'Services'. scroll down to DCOM Process Service Laucher and Start it (if its already started then abandon this suggestion here!), your computer may then freeze, windows may complain of the service not starting in a timely fashion, wait until windows complains then, if DCOM has frozen, attempt to install iTunes. or if DCOM does start sucessfully, you should be able to install iTunes?! hope this helps moistmule |

Thanks! I had a friend help me last night with it and I don't have a Firewire or USB 2.0 port, so he said that may be the problem. He's going to hook me up with a Firewire port and I'm probably going to try and install it again, if that doesn't work I'll try your suggestion.
Thanks for all the help! |

Allright sir, stop listening to everything these guys are saying about installing more updates. I know a million people just like you who have had problems installing iTunes on WinXP. You simply just need to turn off your firewalls, real-time virus scanners, all that safety jazz just for the installation, and then feel free to turn them all back on.
If this doesn't work and you need the software for an iPod, you can also use Real Player, download a plugin for it, and it'll work fine. Last edited by DepatrickCie87 : January 28th, 2005 at 10:07 AM. |

I'm a girl. ![]() I actually just ended up installing EphPod instead of iTunes and have been using that just fine. I like the program a lot better anyway. I reformatted my computer a few days ago (not because of this) so I may try and attempt installing iTunes again, but for right now I'm really pleased with EphPod. |

Hmm I'm having a very similar problem, and since i only have a USB 1.1 connection, Ephpod is not any option. Could anyone help me out with this? It's Error 1607, and I've tried alot of the stuff i've found online and I tried the InstallShield and Windows solutions to the problem with no success.
